Sanford Health and The Good Samaritan Society support lifelong learning and provide financial support for continuing education that will develop our employees’ competence in their current positions or enhance their employability within Sanford Health of Northern Minnesota.

Purpose: This scholarship will help employees pursue education that leads to advancement in the field of long-term care (including but is not limited to CNA certification, LPN, BSN), medical interpreter education, social work, job-related English as a second language or Adult Basic Education training.

Requirements & Eligibility: 

  • Be an employee of a long-term care Good Samaritan Society facility in Minnesota.
  • GSS employee seeking a degree pertaining to long-term care at a regionally or nationally accredited academic institution
  • Work an average of 10 hours per week/20 hours per bi-weekly period/130 hours per calendar quarter during the period covered by the scholarship. 
    • These hours can be prorated for partial periods of time 
      • Example: Employee is in school for part of one session and part of another session
  • The 10-hour average weekly work requirement does not apply to scholarships granted for nurse aide expenses. 

Award: Employees will not receive more than $5,250 in scholarship dollars per calendar year. Some reimbursements and loan forgiveness payments are subject to IRS rules on taxable income.

Award Distribution: Payment or reimbursement will be sent to employee via direct deposit. Please make sure to have your direct deposit set up in OneSource (Workday) prior to the end of the desired semester or before payment is to be sent. Click here for instructions if you need to set this up.

Note: Minnesota employees not eligible for this program should consider the Sanford Educational Assistance Program for tuition assistance. Refer to the Educational Assistance article located under Related Resources below. Administrators are exempt from this opportunity.
